Amazing tablet! (not an iPad)

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Acer Iconia A500Are you buying a tablet? Maybe you have one already? Did you get an iPad? Did you overpay? I’m sure you did…

iPad is a great tablet, I’m not denying that. But, it’s heavily overpriced, you pay for the logo, for the brand. If you’re ok with that, no problem. I understand.

But, if you want a tablet that will have all that iPad has (and more) then keep reading…

There are many reasons why I wouldn’t buy an iPad. Some of them that may be important to you (and are important to me) are many things that are missing from an iPad, i.e.:

- No USB

- No Memory Card slot to expand memory

- No HDMI output to connect it directly to your TV or projector

Samsung SyncMaster S27A350How about a Review of 27″ LED Full HD Samsung SyncMaster S27A350?

I have recently been looking for a nice new monitor for my computer and as I purchased it already I thought I would share with you a review of the monitor, so I recorded a video to show it to you as well.

Let me tell you the reasons behind buying this monitor.

When I decided to buy a new monitor I had a few important things in mind:

- I wanted to use it for my photography as well as web work, so I wanted good quality monitor, not the cheapest one, but I didn’t want to spend a fortune on it;

- I wanted it to be quite big, ca.26-27″;

- It had to be an LED monitor;

- Full HD resolution as I have it connected to my BluRay home cinema;

- HDMI connection (for BluRay or laptop);

- It had to be as energy efficient as possible (less than 30W power consumption);

- It had be environmentally friendly.

Impossible? Not really. I found this beautiful 27″ monitor from Samsung that “fit the bill” as one could say.

Are you using Adobe Photoshop Touch?

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Photoshop Touch AppSome time ago, I posted about Adobe revealing Photoshop Touch for iPad (Android version was released much earlier). You can visit the original post here:

 Adobe releases Photoshop Touch App for iPad.

As you know from the previous post, Photoshop Touch is only available for iPad2 (and the new one coming out soon) and Android Honeycomb tablets.

The features in both applications (for both platforms) are the same, and there are the same limitations, i.e. you can only work on images that are no more than 1600px x 1600px.

From what I have heard from people using Photoshop Touch on both platforms, the same response kept coming back to me…

Freehostia – web hosting.

And I recently made a mistake by deciding to use another hosting company, I thought it would be a good idea t o use someone based in the UK and I chose a big brand – 1&1. I didn’t know what I was going for… I was going for a ride… that cost me time and money that I wasted…

Microsoft locking out other Operating Systems from Windows 8

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

You may have heard about it already. Microsoft plans to lock out other operating systems from Windows 8, that means Linux, other Open Source operating systems, Mac OS and others.

Microsoft claims they’re not going to lock out other operating systems with the introduction of Windows 8, but it seems like they  are not telling the truth… Here’s an extract from Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Certification Requirements for Windows 8 client and server systems found on page 116 that will Windows 8 Secure Boot can be disabled:

on Intel systems, “Disabling Secure [Boot] must not be possible on ARM systems.”

Lightroom on Linux?

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, now coming in its new 4th ‘incarnation’ is a default for many photographers worldwide. And there is a reason behind it, it is a great and easy to use application.

I have been using Lightroom since the beginning (and Photoshop before Lightroom), and I found it to be a great tool for me as a photographer.

As those of you who know me personally know, I am not a fan of Windows (nor Mac), and I am a massive fan of Linux. I have been a massive fan of Linux for many years and I have used it for many years. However, what I kept struggling with was how to run Adobe software on Linux. I have been a fan of Adobe software even before I became an Adobe Certified Expert and Instructor and for many years I would run Linux and Windows (unfortunately) as a dual-boot on my laptops.
