Dell XPS 15 or Hp Envy 14?

Dell XPS 15 Are you looking for a new laptop? Do you want to buya decent laptop and don’t want to spend all your money on a mac?

That’s what I was doing recently. It was time to get a new laptop, even though my Dell Studio is great and I love it. But it couldn’t cope that well with Creative Suite 5 so it was time for a replacement and it was time to get a decent laptop, that would cope well with Creative Suite 5. And obviously I wanted a good laptop for a reasonably price, something in a range of £1000.

As I was researching a new laptop, I knew I wanted a few important things:

an aluminium body
an i5 processor
a graphics card with 1GB of dedicated RAM
a good screen (ideally HD screen)
at least 3 USB ports (ideally USB 3.0)
BluRay drive.
14″-15.6″ screen

After doing a lot of research, I narrowed my choice down to two laptops: Dell XPS 15 and Hp Envy 14. Both laptops offer good value for money, and they offer many features. While choosing a laptop, I was also considering a MacBook, but quickly dismissed because of lack of many features I wanted (no BluRay, very high price for the specifications I wanted, no USB 3.0, low resolution screen). Both XPS and Envy offer high-resolution screen, however only XPS offers Full HD screen! Yes, with 15.6″ screen, there is an option for Full HD 1920x1080px screen!

From a design perspective, Hp would be an obvious choice, and I was slightly moving towards it at the beginning. It looks a bit better than XPS, it is a bit smaller (smaller screen), and a bit thinner – it does look a lot like macbook. XPS is a it different, more robust, slighly thicker, and it has its own look, not trying to copy macbooks, but creating their own design.

When I looked at the specifications, XPS was a definite choice for a few reasons: Full HD gorgeous screen, BluRay, USB 3.0 ports – features Envy 14 doesn’t offer. Finally, I decide I wanted features more than how the laptop looks and I went for XPS. And this was a very wise choice, I love it!

Another week, another great episode of Photoshop Lightroom TV!

I am so happy I can share with you so much information about anything Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge and photography in a weekly video podcast called Photoshop Lightroom TV.

Announcing Adobe Creative Suite 5.5!

CS 5.5 Good morning to you! Great news for you today! And finally I can share it with you, I cannot wait to do it so let’s get straight to the point.

Adobe announces Adobe® Creative Suite® 5.5! And it even comes with optional subscription based pricing! Adobe has just announced an update to its Creative Suite – CS 5.5. The update mostly focuses on updates for the smartphone platform.

Adobe plans to change their “major releases cycle” to 24 months instead of 18.

Adobe says:

“the CS update is focused on enabling designers and developers to target popular and emerging smartphone and tablet platforms,” and provides “substantive advances to HTML5, Flash authoring, digital publishing and video tools as well as new capabilities that kick-start the integration of tablets into creative workflows.”

Adobe has also introduced subscription-based pricing for the Creative Suite, with monthly pricing schemes.
The monthly pricing scheme includes products like Photoshop for US$35 per month, Adobe Design Premium CS 5.5 for $95 per month, and Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection for $129 per month.
Of course, you can also pay for the suite all in one go, but it’ll cost you anywhere from $1299 up to $2599 for the Master Collection.

How to work with Layers with Terry White

Another great resource from Terry White, an Adobe Worldwide Evangelist for Design Platform. Terry is an amazing personality and a fantastic Adobe trainer who specializes in Design Platform with years of experience n the field.

Just a short Bio of Terry from his website:

Terry White Are you looking for a great place to learn the Adobe technology? You’re in the right place. I am going to point you in the right direction.

You know there are loads of videos about anything Adobe on YouTube but it’s hard to find really professional ones. Anyone can post to YouTube which means there are many videos with poor quality… That’s where Terry White comes in!

Terry is an Adobe Evangelist for Design platform at Adobe and he has its own Channel on YouTube. If you want to learn from professionals, this is the place to go!

Adobe CS Review

CS Review in Creative Suite 5

CS Review is a fantastic new service from Adobe implemented into Creative Suite 5.

It is available in Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, InDesign CS5, and Premiere Pro CS5. It is so much easier to use it instead of creating Pdf comps and sending them to your clients.

The main purpose behind CS Review is to quickly share your design ideas with your clients or colleagues and you can do it straight from within Adobe Photoshop (or other applications as mentioned above)!

CS Review is a part of CS Live Services introduced by Adobe with Creative Suite 5 release last year and it is a complimentary service for a year. You just need to sign up with your Adobe account (which is Free as well).

Photoshop CS5 demo assets

Good morning

Have you upgraded to CS5 already?

Maybe you want to play with the new features and you would like to use demo assets Adobe used in their presentations. Here is the answer for you. Adobe provided a link people can use to download the demo assets for every Creative Suite 5 product.

There are seperate downloads for Windows and Mac users and you can download demo assets for Photoshop and all the other applications.

You can download Demo Assets from this location. These assets can be used: “for demonstration and testing purposes.” (quote from one of Adobe employees).
