Rounded corners on the top…?

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Photoshop Lightroom TV - Episode 58Hello and welcome,

Quite an intriguing topic today. That’s actually one of the questions I have recently received, so I thought I would create a video on that.

The question was:

” I liked your video on creating rounded corners on images for use on the web. How can I create rounded corners just on the top and leave the bottom straight? “

And here’s an answer – in this week’s episode of Photoshop Lightroom TV.

That’s just one of the tutorials in this week’s episode, so keep watching for some more great Photoshop stuff! I hope you’ll enjoy it.

If you have any questions or enquiries, just let me know.

Happy watching! :-)

Remove a Background from an Image in Photoshop CS 5 with Terry White

Friday, September 16th, 2011

It’s Friday, so it’s the last post of this week, I’m afraid….

You have seen me posting a lot about Terry White and his resources. Why? Because he is a great Adobe Instructor and photographer and he has loads of great videos. So, I’d be happy to share some of his videos with you.

Today, we’ll talk about removing a background from an image using Photoshop CS5. This is one of the very often, if not most often asked question, and Terry will try to make his best to show you how to do it best.

Terry says:

” One of the number one “how to” questions about Photoshop is “how to remove a background from an image or how to extract an image from the background.” I’ve recorded videos on this in the past and people always comment/ask what about when the background is not a solid color like grey or white? In this video the background is multiple colors and I walk you though how to do it from start to finish. “

Here’s the video for you:

Have a great time watching it and see you on Monday!

Why do I need the latest version of Lightroom or Photoshop?

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Adobe DNG ConverterWelcome to today’s post. I know what you’re thinking -  I need the latest version of Photoshop or Lightroom to get all the new features, bugs and fixes. Well, yes obviously but I actually had something else in mind.

Following the yesterday’s post, I wanted to talk a bit more about camera support in Camera Raw (by the way, Camera Raw found in Lightroom and Photoshop, and Bridge is the same, so Camera Raw 6 is found in Photoshop CS5, Bridge CS5, and Lightroom 3). In case you missed yesterday’s post, here’s the link for you:

Lightroom/Photoshop doesn’t support my camera…

What I wanted to talk about today, is the following question I get asked quite a lot on my Lightroom and Photoshop training for Photographers:

” Why do I need to have the latest version of Photoshop/Lightroom to get my camera supported? Why older versions of Photoshop/Lightroom don’t support new cameras? “

My answer is: You don’t have to have the latest version of Photoshop/Lightroom to work with your raw images from a new camera. You can access your raw images in Lightroom 1 and 2, and in Photoshop CS2, CS3, and CS4 as well. However, there is a trick here… Well, not really a trick, just kidding ;-)

You can access your raw images by using the Adobe DNG Converter. This is one of the advantages of using DNG – backward compatibility. Let me explain before I give you a link to the DNG Converter.

There are a number of advantages of using DNG files as opposed to the raw format from your camera (remember, every camera uses a slightly different raw specification, so raw files from different cameras, even from the same manufacturer, are different. Here are some advantages:

  • DNG files are smaller, so you save disk space
  • DNG file format is open-source, which means that it is widely available for developers to contribute to the development of the format
  • All the adjustments, keywords, and all metadata is stored in the file, so you don’t have to worry about using sidecar files

Which file format you choose is completely up to you, these are just some of the advantages of using the DNG file format and the Converter to convert your raw files.

Finally, let me give you a link to the DNG Converter:

I hope you found it useful and I hope to see you here tomorrow for a great photography post.

Removing unwanted images in Photoshop

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Photoshop UpdatesToday, I have another video for you. This time it is another video from the Photoshop channel.

Removing unwanted images in Photoshop is the topic of today’s video.

Everyone has heard of Content-Aware Fill, but did you know that it’s a new option for the Spot Healing Brush? Now, you can easily remove power lines and wires from an image; a trick not possible before. I have covered it in some of my videos – you can even find one in my own Channel on Adobe TV! – here’s a link for you:

Marek’s Mastering Techniques on Adobe TV.

But today, I want to share with you a video from one of the guys from Adobe.

So here you go, here’s the video for you. Enjoy it!

Hidden Gems in Photoshop

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

3dPhotoshopHeaderHave you ever heard about hidden gems? Maybe not in Photoshop…

What are hidden gems, I hear you asking?

Hidden gems are usually less known features in Photoshop. We all have heard about Content-Aware Fill and Puppet Warp in Photoshop CS5, but there are so many more less known features in Photoshop. Or, it could be some new ways to use one of the features in Photoshop. For example, in one of the previous posts on the blog here, I did a tutorial (a video actually) on using Content-Aware Fill to fix the panoramas. What a great way of using Content-Aware Fill in Photoshop CS5! ;-)

That’s what I call Hidden Gems in Photoshop CS5. To show you an interesting hidden gem in Photoshop CS5, I want to share with you a video by Brian Hughes.

Here’s what Brian says about this video:

Some features are just made for each other, like Puppet Warp and Content-Aware Fill. Puppet Warp helps you manipulate and Content-Aware Fill seamlessly synthesizes the background. Together the tools can change the pose of a model, easily remove artifacts and take care of hours of cleanup work in seconds.

I hope you’ll enjoy it. And it’s less than 2 minutes long so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t watch it!

Customise the Identity Plate and Panel End Marks in Lightroom

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Photoshop Lightroom TV with Marek MularczykHello guys,

It’s time for another episode of Photoshop Lightroom TV! ;-)

It’s another week and another episode. This week I’m talking about customising the Identity Plate and Panel End Marks in Lightroom. Maybe not something exciting, but a nice way to customise your Lightroom interface, give it some personal look.

As you customise the Identity Plate, you can use your own text, or a graphic. As an example, you can use a graphic of your business logo, your company logo, or anything you like. Feel free to experiment and try out different options. So let me give you a link:

Photoshop Lightroom TV – Episode 52.

Of course there is much more than just one tutorial on customising your Lightroom interface, so go on and watch it for yourself!

See you tomorrow! :-)
